EAN-Mada (Ecole de l'Atopie Numérique - Madagascar): Madagascar Digital Atopy School Development and Evaluation of a Digital Therapeutic Patient Education Program to Improve Quality of Life in Children with Atopic Dermatitis and Their Caregivers
Operating in Madagascar with only 18 dermatologists for 28 million inhabitants, this project addresses atopic dermatitis, a chronic condition largely managed by families alone, resulting in poor treatment adherence for 61.90% of adults and 45.45% of children. To bridge this gap, the initiative launches EAN-Mada (Ecole de l’Atopie Numérique), a fully digital Atopy School in Malagasy and French delivered via YouTube videos and a WhatsApp chatbot. Built upon a qualitative inquiry into local practices and beliefs, a prospective controlled trial will evaluate 100 participants over 6 months. By delivering accessible therapeutic education tailored to local practices, the initiative aims to improve disease severity, treatment adherence and overall quality of life.
